In fact, in a gaming company, the responsibilities of a Chief Accountant can be even more critical due to the unique financial aspects and challenges associated with the gaming industry. We asked Julija Ozolina, Chief Accountant at Sandsoft, on her role and peculiarities in the gaming industry.
What are the things that you like most about your role of a Chief Accountant?
“I enjoy being responsible for the financial aspects of the company and I like to stay informed about the company’s performance at all times. The role of a Chief Accountant offers precisely that, with the added responsibility of overseeing all accounting functions and the opportunity to introduce new technology and automation to enhance efficiency.”
To your opinion and your experience, what are the peculiarities of a Chief Accountant role in gaming industry compared to other industries?
“Gaming industry is constantly changing and evolving, and everyone working in it must adapt quickly, including the Chief Accountant. Game development cycles, highly competitive environment, and operating across multiple jurisdictions can add complexity to the role.”
In the rapidly evolving gaming landscape, what do you think are the best approach to ensure compliance with the relevant accounting standards and regulations specific to the industry?
“Creating clear and easy-to-follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) is a good start to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations. It is important that the company’s policies and procedures are communicated to employees so that they understand their importance. Additionally, implementing internal controls and procedures can help ensure compliance.”
What are some of your hobbies / things you enjoy doing in your free time?
“Whenever I have the opportunity, I travel because it is a passion of mine and I am excited to learn about different cultures and meet new people.”
Do you play games? If yes, what are your favourite ones?
“Yes, I´m still keen on Exploding Kittens!”
What were some of the things that convinced you to join Sandsoft?
First of all, the team! I felt comfortable during the interview process because everyone on the team put me at ease and it felt more like a chat than an interview. The culture and values of Sandsoft matched my own and I was happy to learn that the feeling was mutual. Additionally, the opportunity to grow with the company and make major contributions was an added bonus.
